How to Measure Odd Cup Amounts
Converters give honest answers like 0.83 cups, but no measuring cup has that line. The fix is tablespoons: one US cup is exactly 16 tablespoons, and one tablespoon is 3 teaspoons.

The one-line method
Multiply the decimal part by 16 to get tablespoons. For 0.83 cups: 0.83 × 16 = 13.3 tablespoons, which is ¾ cup (12 tbsp) plus 1 tablespoon and 2 teaspoons. Round to the nearest teaspoon — nothing you bake will notice the difference.
Rounding rules that are safe
- Flour, sugar and liquids: round to the nearest tablespoon.
- Baking powder, soda, salt and yeast: measure exactly, use ⅛ tsp spoons.
- Chocolate, nuts and oats: round freely, they are forgiving.
